Hello Maker World!

I’ve finally done it – I’ve created a blog!

I feel like this was such a long way to get here, but I’m excited I decided to do it.

When I first started crocheting, about 10 years ago, blogging was never something I considered. I was playing with yarn and learning, and was actually shy at first to share with people this was my new hobby. Why? Because “crochet is for grandmas and old ladies” and I was in my early twenties.

Then I realized I was actually pretty good at it, being a self-taught crocheter, and that I can create pretty cool stuff, like stuffed toys or basic wearables (hats, scarfs, etc.). I started showing my work to people more and to my surprise, they seemed to like it! I even sold a few finished items and made some things per custom orders. It was then I decided to be more “public” about my awesome new hobby and created an Instagram account, with an intention to learn more, meet other makers and potentially earn some money to buy more yarn. ๐Ÿ˜€

Wow, what a world I stepped into! *.*

I was amazed by such a welcoming and warm community, the variety of things makers do with yarn and knew right then – there will be no turning back. I have found something just for me, my own little haven. Somewhere along this social community way, I discovered many designers who were not only great at crocheting, but had that entrepreneurial spark and were actually doing great through designing and – blogging about it! I never considered myself a writer, blogger or whatever, but I believe I am good with words and I have an eye for pretty things. So I started thinking about creating a blog of my own. But it was only an idea, a dream. Practical stuff like investing financially in something like a blog, being consistent about writing and posting content, maintaining everything that comes with the whole package – it all seemed so overwhelming to me. So it stayed only as an idea.

Crochet is a hobby, and my day job is something I do for a living.

Then usual and not-so-usual life events occurred, family became a number one priority for me and stayed as such until this day. When my boy was born, everything naturally revolved around him and I did not think about anything else. Again, crochet was that creative hobby of mine – even though by this point, I was actually really good at it. I applied to test other designers’ patterns from time to time, learned a lot about the craft and social aspect of it. I started designing my own pieces and writing patterns. My Instagram following started growing, as did the ideas about all the things I want to make and share with the world.

I opened up an Etsy shop to see how that works, then a Ravelry shop too. I gathered knowledge about the possibilities of earning as a crochet designer. It seemed like even more work, and blogging was definitely a major part in all of these things, but now I wasn’t so afraid of it. I was so deeply invested in crochet, that it was pretty clear to me it’s not just a hobby anymore and it never will be only that.

The idea of sharing my knowledge about crochet, sharing my work and trying to expand my craft as something more concrete was stuck in my head. I feel I was only finding myself and the right time to start this part of the journey.

And that brings us here! Me being so very close to my due date with my second child and building a blog simultaneously! How exciting, how scary, how new! ๐Ÿ˜€ What will I blog about? I have almost no idea. Anything and everything crochet-related. Share my patterns, try to make tutorials for stitches I love, write about all things yarn…

I hope I haven’t bored you to death by now and that you will stay along with me on this ride. I hope to spark the love of crochet in you, inspire you to make, and that we grow together. Because that’s what this maker world is to me!

So without further ado, hello Maker World! I am Natasha and I’m very excited to get to hang with you here!

What are we crocheting today? ๐Ÿ˜‰
